Annual Projects

T. Mims Corp. is dedicated to giving back and getting involved within our community.

Red, White & KaBoom

For years families have come together to share picnic blankets, listen to lively music and celebrate Independence Day with Lakeland’s Red, White and Kaboom Fireworks Show and accompanying festival atmosphere. In 2009 the economic downturn found the event without a major sponsor and the city commission had no choice but to call the show off for lack of partnership funding. The day the event was canceled, Tom Mims called the City of Lakeland and told them to keep moving forward with the plans for the celebration. He and his wife, Paula, could not bear to let the festivities die, particularly at a time when so many needed free, fun outdoor activities. Tom and Paula, long supporters of community events, wanted to continue the tradition of families coming together to celebrate our nation’s history and also show support to our troops and their families. “We love our country and our community and wanted a time for families to come together and celebrate,” remembers Tom Mims.

Spartan Race

On December 7th through 9th, 2018, we will be hosting Spartan’s Central Florida Beast and Sprint Weekend. After having such a memorable experience from 2017's Beast and Sprint Weekend, we wanted to continue this event into a second year. The 30-35 obstacles within the 12-14 miles of the race test participates true strength, endurance, and resolve. The course is designed to be unpredictable and challenging for even the most experienced competitors. T. Mims Corp. and Spartan have partnered together to help build communities while pushing participants to fullest of their abilities.

Chow For Now

Chow For Now, the brainchild of one of the Mims children, Patrick Mims, was inspired by a dear family friend who thought it would be great to have a canned food drive associated with the event. Everyone who comes to Red, White and KaBoom is encouraged to bring a canned food item or two and turn it in to the multitude of teen volunteers pushing grocery carts around the event. VISTE, Volunteers In Service to the Elderly, is the recipient of the cans. “VISTE does an amazing job of helping the elderly members of our community who have many unmet needs, including a severe lack of nutritional support,” says Paula Mims. Although Patrick has passed the torch on, T. Mims Corp. is still an avid supporter of the program and is committed to its mission.

Giving Back

Tom and Paula Mims's passion for philanthropy has been instilled within our company and we frequently sponsor and support local events and organizations. Education and community development are at the top of our list. That’s why our company has, for years, supported Lakeland’s Junior League and Polk County schools. We believe that for businesses to be sustainable, they need to stay involved and engaged with their stakeholders.
